our training philosophy

It is our mandate to provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based tactical medicine and bleeding control training to our client base.  Whether you are a law enforcement agency, a local business, a government entity, a school, university, or even a prepared citizen, you can be assured you and your group will be instilled with the most advanced education and training techniques available.

Our bleeding control and tactical casualty care curricula are taken directly from the nationally and internationally recognized TCCC and TECC standards and protocols.  We teach concepts that are backed up by years of scholastic research and combat success and, our instructors are engaged in continual training and teaching in order to remain at the pinnacle of academic knowledge.

As a physician-led company, our instructors are held to a higher standard and present our courses in full accordance with the latest changes and updates applicable in the ever-evolving world of tactical and operational medicine.  You will be taught basic concepts of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology in order to help understand what goes on in the human body while undergoing a traumatic injury or event.

Unlike other companies, we present you with a series of options while managing a medical problem.  Rare is the case where you must do things a certain way without exceptions, and we will show you various ways to approach each problem so that you leave with the utmost confidence in handling the type of incidents discussed.

Our everyday goal is to empower professional responders & civilian first care providers with the knowledge and medical tools necessary to save lives.

We are actively achieving our vision and mission by using up-to-date standards, protocols, tools, and equipment based on evidence and real-world results.

We are committed to teaching you actionable skills that are easy to reproduce in times so stress so that you can be better prepared to help potentially save a life

We urge you to take our training, you never know when your brother, sister, father, mother, child, friend or even a total stranger may need your help one day.  We want you to have the knowledge, skills, and equipment to be an “ACTIVE BYSTANDER”, and we are committed to teaching you these skills so that you can be better prepared to help potentially save a life.

Why is this training important?

Uncontrolled blood loss is the leading cause of preventable death in an Active Shooter event, active threats, hostile events, multiple casualty events, terrorist attacks. Rapid control of bleeding at the scene of the event can be life-saving.

In response to increased gun violence and mass casualty events in the country, the White House and the Department of Homeland Security created “Stop the Bleed,” a national campaign to help improve survival from life-threatening bleeding by making bleeding control training as commonplace as CPR.

“The ‘Stop the Bleed’ campaign was initiated by a federal interagency workgroup convened by the National Security Council Staff, The White House.  The purpose of the campaign is to build national resilience by better preparing the public to save lives by raising awareness of basic actions to stop life-threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies and man-made and natural disasters. Advances made by military medicine and research in hemorrhage control during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have informed the work of this initiative which exemplifies translation of knowledge back to the homeland to the benefit of the public.

  • In-depth ALL-HAZARDS approach
  • Excellent corporate or school course
  • #RACE2Safety & CARE Algorithm

The more complete choice for school and corporate safety training

First CARE Provider is proud to be a DHS endorsed Stop the Bleed program. The goal is to educate the public in basic hemorrhage control techniques to eliminate preventable deaths.

Organizations and agencies across the world now conduct regular active-shooter exercises and basic bleeding control classes. While many of these programs teach familiarization with the DHS-recommended “run, hide, fight” approach, the “first care provider” concept creates an all-hazard approach to situations where life may be compromised yet medical care is unavailable.

The situational response and prioritization of care taught in the FCP Program differs dramatically from civilian medical programs (first aid, CPR) but adheres to the consensus guidelines recommended by C-TECC, and the universality of the first care model makes it an appropriate subject to be included as a part of all ongoing safety programs and new-employee orientations, or as a stand-alone course.

The First Care Provider Program is leaps and bounds superior to the basic “Stop The Bleed” courses being taught elsewhere.  Do not be fooled by cheap presentations mandated by your institution and taught by unqualified instructors to a room full of people.  The training you receive from these “free” courses is watered-down, incomplete, and rarely contain individualized hands-on training with proper corrections and technique evaluations.

  • Most comprehensive civilian course
  • Excellent for CCW holders
  • Goes far beyond the standard Stop The Bleed Course
  • Based on using the contents on an IFAK

Our civilian flagship course

Many of the newer Bleeding Control courses, though essential, are very basic in nature and only cover one aspect of the Trauma Triad of Death.  While this information is better than what was previously taught, it does not provide you with the knowledge to confidently address the 3 most common causes of preventable deaths due to traumatic injury.

The Civilian Lifesaver Course, which was designed by a physician, and taught by military and Special Operations veterans, goes far beyond your average “Bleeding Control” course.  We introduce you to the basic concepts and algorithms of tactical medicine, explain the pathophysiology caused by injuries, and show you what to do and why it works.

We cover massive extremity hemorrhage, airway problems, respiratory issues, preventing hypothermia, detecting and preventing shock.  We show you how to properly use all the components of a modern Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK), we show you various tourniquets and explain why some are excellent and some can get you killed, we discuss which is the best hemostatic agent for civilian use (despite what the military uses), we compare and contrast various chest seals and pressure dressings and show you how to put together a kit to suit your needs.

  • Most comprehensive L.E.O. course
  • Excellent for individual officers
  • Goes far beyond the standard Stop The Bleed Course
  • Based on using the contents on an IFAK

Our Law Enforcement Officer flagship course

The Downed Officer Medical Survival Course teaches the essentials required to provide self-aid and buddy-aid whilst in the midst of an ongoing larger tactical situation. Traditional First Aid and basic bleeding control courses are designed for controlled or controllable environments but are not realistic and actually can be dangerous if their approaches are utilized in environments with a proactive intelligent threat. By dispelling some of the assumptions of first aid dogma and applying environment and situation-appropriate actions as well as skills and equipment to tactical environments, this course teaches officers how to save their own life or the life of their partner when the violence is turned against them and they have become a casualty.

The Downed Officer Medical Survival Course covers the various phases of TECC, hemorrhage control (including tourniquets and wound packing), basic airway management, and tactical rescue concepts among many other essential topics.

The Downed Officer Medical Survival Course is an 8-hr live hands-on course that can be delivered on short notice to your officers at your agency.  Officers will receive excellent instruction by folks who are professional medical providers utilizing a methodology that will bring numerous concepts and disciplines together in order to give the participants the knowledge, skills, and confidence to help save a life and complete the mission.

  • Designed for all audiences
  • Comprehensive tourniquet education
  • Goes far beyond the standard Stop The Bleed Course
  • Learn how to use ALL major tourniquets

Upon completion of this lecture, your agency or department officers will be experts in the didactic and practical aspects of tourniquet employment.

Our Law Enforcement Officer flagship course

Tourniquets are proven to be fast, effective and safe in treating major extremity bleeding. By equipping every officer in the state with a tourniquet, you will improve officer safety, we will improve medical preparedness, and we both will save lives.

There are a lot of myths and misconceptions regarding their use, many bleeding control instructors teach the use of tourniquets “in their own way” without justification or adherence to science and research.  We will do no such thing, but we will provide you with an in-depth analysis of the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, and how it relates to proper tourniquet placement and management.

We will discuss the indications/contraindications of tourniquet use, proper/improper tourniquet placement (and complications), management and conversion (if necessary)  of tourniquets, assessment/reassessment of place tourniquets, and we will discuss the pros/cons of improvised tourniquets.

We will discuss and familiarize you with ALL the current CoTCCC recommended devices and spend time dissecting the parts and nuances to each of the 3 most commonly used devices: The CAT Gen 7, the SOF-T-W v. 3 & 4, and the SAM XT.  We will also discuss the ratcheting TQ’s and the pneumatic models.   We will also discuss what tourniquets to AVOID, and why.
